ECO-STUFF:
Shepherds Ford Productions has taken several leaps toward achieving the environmental sustainability of the festival. These include:
Wind Power
We calculated our energy usage based on last years meter readings, and the estimated mileage of the performers and vendors and purchased Wind Energy Credits from Clean Currents. So basically, we're offsetting our energy usage by putting "clean" energy into the grid in an amount that covers our grid consumption. We hope to someday employ our own solar and wind generation, but that's obviously a fairly costly and time intensive enterprise.
We are developing an idea whereby attendees can calculate and offset their own travel to and from the event with Clean Currents. More as this idea progresses.
Recycling Program
We will have recycling containers throughout the festival grounds for collection in an effort to reduce waste production.
Responsible Hospitality
We will once again be providing biodegradable serving ware for our backstage hospitality, which includes cups, dishes, and forks made from 100% biodegradable corn. We will also be using as much post consumer recycled paper products as possible. It is our goal to get all the vendors to provide the biodegradable serving ware and recycled paperware as possible as well.
Water Containers
We will also be providing drinking water from water-coolers for our backstage hospitality. This will eliminate the huge waste of plastic bottles. We are currently also developing plans to offer reusable stainless steel water flasks and free filtered drinking water.
Local Food and Supplies
We will purchase and use as much locally-grown fresh produce and food supplies as possible. Supporting local agriculture reduces the amount of fossil fuels burned to get food from the farm to the table.
The Green Tent
Thanks to the Mosby Heritage Area Association for Sponsoring the Green Tent. Here you will find more information on how we are conducting the festival to be more socially-conscious, and tips on what you can do at your home and office.
